Central Municipal Election Board

Committees and boards

The Central Municipal Election Board of the City of Helsinki is responsible for carrying out the duties assigned to municipalities in Finland’s Election Act.

During national-level elections, the Central Municipal Election Board handles the preparation work for the election and is responsible for arranging advance voting.

During municipal elections, the Central Municipal Election Board also checks the applications that have been submitted for the published candidate list and prepares a composite of the candidate lists. It is also responsible for carrying out an advance tally of the municipal election results, counting the votes cast in the election, and confirming the election result.

The Central Municipal Election Board is appointed by the City Council.

The Central Municipal Election Board has five members and five deputy members. There are no personally assigned deputies, as the deputies take the place of members on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Central Election Board meets at separately agreed times determined by the scheduled elections.
